Repeatedly the Bible tells us of the need to keep our heart and mind fixed upon what is godly. One such passage is Romans 12:2, which says, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Micah 6:8 says, “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” That’s pretty self-explanatory, isn’t it? Do what is right, recognize that showing mercy to others pleases the Lord and will add mercy to ourselves, and then remember to live with the realization we should prefer others above ourselves and that we have already received more than we deserve. God hates pride. (Proverbs 6:16) But, God gives grace to the humble. (James 4:6) So, try to remember to have a more humble spirit this week.
As evidenced by what we have already stated, reading your Bible is indispensable when it comes to renewing the mind. The more we read the pure words of the Lord, the more opportunity we have to treasure-it-up in our heart and hopefully renew our mind so as to better know what the will of the Lord is. Further, as Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Having a fuller understanding of the will of the Lord and following it in daily life can help us avoid some past mistakes.
Lastly, as we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, continue to pray for wisdom to know how to apply to our daily walk what we are learning. The more we learn about the example Jesus left us to follow, the more like Him we should be as we try to emulate Him and let His light shine forth before others.
This week, keep your mind renewed with godliness, walk more humbly, and read God’s word. The better we know His will, the more His will will be reflected by us to others.
In the love of Christ,
