THE HISTORY OF PINEY GROVE
_
The History of Piney Grove Since April of 1849, before the city of Headland, Alabama, was established, Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church has continued to meet regularly. Adults and children have been worshiping together, singing together in congregational a capella singing, praying together, and hearing the word of God proclaimed from its pulpit with a particular emphasis on salvation by grace alone and the finished work of Christ upon the cross. Being affiliated with Primitive Baptists does not mean that we refuse the use of modern conveniences in life, but that we strive to be “original” in our doctrine and practice. The name “Primitive Baptists” was chosen in the early 1800’s to distinguish our churches from sister churches in the Baptist family who had begun to embrace new doctrines and practices which the Bible did not support. While they soon began to be known as “new school” or “missionary” Baptists, we then became known as “old school” or “primitive” Baptists. We invite you to read our Articles Of Faith for a detailed explanation of what we believe and where these doctrines are taught in the Bible. For friends, our belief is that unless we continue in the truths of God’s word, and in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, we cannot expect His mercy and blessings to continue with us. We do not glory in being different, but we “ought to obey God, rather than men.” (see Acts 5:29) |
